About Jim Band

Jim Band is a seasoned executive with an impressive 25-year law enforcement career, including a decade of achievements as a police chief in Oregon. With a strong focus on employee labor relations, Jim possesses extensive expertise in resolving personnel and workplace issues and complaints. Furthermore, his track record includes proficiency in contract negotiation, contract grievances, and arbitration.

As an active member of the Oregon Association of Chiefs of Police, Jim spent several years as the chair of the Executive Resources Committee. In this role, Jim collaborated with fellow subject matter experts to conduct comprehensive reviews of police departments across Oregon. These evaluations encompassed best practices, budgetary considerations, organizational effectiveness, and leadership assessments.  Jim worked closely with city managers and elected officials to identify and place interim police chiefs in response to unforeseen circumstances that presented immediate challenges to the operation of their police departments. Through these reviews and temporary placements, Jim forged strong partnerships with city leaders, striving to enhance police service delivery and align it with community expectations.

 Jim forged his talents as an investigator through years of experience as a criminal detective, investigating everything from property crimes to major person crimes.  These cases included officer involved shootings and homicides.  Moreover, Jim excelled as a detective supervisor, successfully leading and managing criminal investigative teams.

Jim holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and graduated from the 242nd Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.  Jim is an active member of the Oregon Association of Chiefs of Police and the FBI National Academy Association.
